Applications

The ZEDroof is a perfect option for creating shaded and sheltered parking for electric bikes, whilst also providing the clean solar energy needed to recharge them.

From January 2011, motorists will be entitled to a ‘Plug-In Car Grant’ of up to £5,000 when buying an electric, plug-in hybrid or hydrogen fuel cell car that meets safety, reliability, performance and warranty standards set by the Office for Low Emissions Vehicles (OLEV).

Additional solar electric panels can be installed on homes to generate enough solar electricity over the year to meet the annual vehicle mileage. Most electric vehicles require a charge of 6 hours to travel 60 miles. One of the HiminZED 180 watt panels costs about £400 and generates 145 kWh / year in London - contributing approximately 500 miles of four seat motoring. 10 PV panels could provide zero carbon transport for around 5000 miles.

E - bikes are the future for suburbia and developments with poor access to public transport.

E-bikes can replace cars and make zero carbon suburbia or personal urban transport possible.

E-bikes

E-bikes take the hard slog out of cycling. New models include a sports e-bike with a maximum speed of 25mph, and a more robust e-bike designed for the weekly shop with a maximum speed of 15mph. A 5 hour charge will provide 25 miles of travelling before the next recharge is needed.

Solar charging

Two HiminZED 185 watt panels can produce enough electricity to allow 2 people to travel 10,000 miles each per year on an electric bike.

For the same cost as a fossil fuel car, a bike port and 2 e-bikes provide carbon-free travel with the added bonus of no fuel costs.

With the recent announcement by the government that 11,000 recharging points will be installed in London, Milton Keynes and North East England, there hasn't been a better time to make the move to electric vehicles.

The ZEDfactory team will campaign that some of these public charge points will be provided in the local shopping centres, railway stations and town centre parking.

Solar car ports on ZEDfactory designs could provide enough electricity to run an electric car for 5000 miles per year.
Carports provide shading and shelter and can generate enough electricity to power the new generation of electric cars.
